Family and friends to the rescue

Over the last week, Tama's family stepped up to the plate and gave us a critical helping hand - everything from cooking to laundry to urgetn supply runs to taking baby shifts do that we could get some sleep. Tama's brother Paul flew up from LA for 5 days and made himself on call for us (his wife Jayme came up on Friday as well). Tama's sister Arie and Tama's mom Joanna ("Nana") came every day to pitch in and provide moral support during those first few difficult days. And Grandpa David (who hasn't decided yet how to be named by the child) stayed up very late to aid us during a mini-crisis on Friday, for which we are extremely grateful.

Meanwhile, my family in Washington has been on call by phone for urgent advice and moral support. My sister Selena got a late-night call on Friday, hours after her bed-time.

Today, a group of friends has started a schedule of food deliveries through June. Other friends far and near have also taken late night calls for advice and moral support, especially around breastfeeding.

This period of time really makes me understand what it means to be a part of a family and part of a community. We have felt very supported and very cared for. We are truly blessed and I only hope that we can, in turn, pass on their generousity and thoughtfulness.
